Ginger Cove Visits Germantown Elementary School

October 26, 2012

Twelve residents from Ginger Cove participated in a special program with 120 kindergarteners at Germantown Elementary in Annapolis, on October 12, 2012.

Germantown currently participates in a project called Premier Kids at Hope where students are encouraged to act in a manner that exemplifies respect, responsibility, and safety. During the visit with Ginger Cove, students were asked to explain to their visitors how they act out these qualities on a day-to-day basis while in school.

The opportunity allowed the children to interact with a variety of adults and hear a variety of stories and experiences. Acquiring social and conversational skills are a vital aspect of the learning process and the dynamic of this program provides a unique and interactive way to do so.

Based on the great success of the program, Georgetown Elementary would like the residents to participate in other programs in the near future such as, reading to groups of students, teaching science lessons or assisting in a Writers Workshop.

“The joy of seeing the garden reborn, the erosion curtailed, the beautiful daffodils and other plants thriving and coming back year after year and seeing the pleasure the residents receive from walking through the Woodland Garden make it a labor of love for me.”
