Ginger Cove at Home – Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ginger Cove at Home?
Ginger Cove at Home is a Continuing Care at Home (CCaH) program that allows adults 60+ to age in place with a long-term plan for care. Members receive care coordination, long-term care benefits, and access to select Ginger Cove services—without needing to move to a retirement community.
How does Ginger Cove at Home work?
Members pay a one-time entrance fee and an ongoing monthly fee. In return, they receive coordinated support, wellness planning, and reimbursement for approved long-term care services at home or in licensed care settings. Members also enjoy select participation in Ginger Cove’s social, wellness, and educational programming.
Who is eligible to join Ginger Cove at Home?
Adults age 60 or older who are living independently and meet the program’s health and financial criteria may apply. Requirements closely mirror those of Ginger Cove’s Life Plan Community.
Is Ginger Cove at Home the same as long-term care insurance?
No. While GCaH includes a long-term care financial benefit, it also provides ongoing care coordination, advocacy, wellness support, and access to Ginger Cove community programs. It functions as both a financial plan and a care management plan.
What types of services are covered that members can receive reimbursement for?
Approved long-term care services may include home care, companion care, home health care, adult day services, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing. Services must meet plan criteria and be part of the care plan developed with the Care Coordinator.
Is the long-term care benefit portable?
Yes. Ginger Cove at Home’s long-term care benefits are portable, meaning members can continue using their long-term care coverage even if they move out of Maryland later in life. Here’s how portability works:
- Members can receive approved long-term care services anywhere in the United States, provided the services are delivered by qualified, licensed providers.
- Care coordination remains available while the member is in Maryland; if a member permanently relocates out of state, the financial benefits continue, and the Care Coordinator can assist with transition planning and locating reputable providers.
- Portability applies to all approved benefit categories, including home care, companion care, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing.
This ensures that members have long-term security even if they move to be closer to family, need to relocate for health reasons, or choose to live in a different region later in life.
What is a Care Coordinator and how do they help?
A Care Coordinator is your personal guide for managing aging, healthcare, and long-term care needs. They specialize in care navigation and advocacy, helping you:
- Coordinate medical appointments and providers
- Understand insurance and Medicare coverage
- Schedule and monitor in-home services
- Communicate with family and providers
- Navigate hospitalizations and rehab, including discharge planning
- Plan proactively to avoid crises
- Optimize long-term care benefits and insurance value
They serve as your long-term partner, ensuring you have support, clarity, and confidence as your needs evolve.
Can I still move to Ginger Cove in the future if I join Ginger Cove at Home?
Yes. Members may apply their entrance fee toward a future move to Ginger Cove’s Life Plan Community. GCaH offers a flexible path for adults who wish to stay home now but keep all long-term options open.
Does Ginger Cove at Home replace Medicare or private insurance?
No. Members must maintain Medicare or equivalent coverage. GCaH supplements these with support and benefits for services Medicare does not cover, such as custodial care, long-term home care, and coordinated transitions.
Where does Ginger Cove at Home operate?
Ginger Cove at Home serves the entire state of Maryland. Members may live in any Maryland county and receive coordinated care and reimbursable services wherever they reside.
How much does Ginger Cove at Home cost?
Members pay a one-time entrance fee and an ongoing monthly fee. These fees fund care coordination, wellness planning, and access to long-term care benefits. Fee levels vary depending on the protection tier and refund option selected.
Is Ginger Cove at Home a good option for aging in place?
Yes. The program is specifically designed to help older adults remain safely and confidently at home for as long as possible, while having a trusted plan in place for future care needs.
How is Ginger Cove at Home different from private home care?
Private home care provides hourly services but no long-term planning or advocacy. GCaH provides a dedicated Care Coordinator, financial coverage for approved services, proactive wellness support, and access to Ginger Cove programming and relationships. It is a comprehensive, lifelong plan—not just a service.
What happens if my care needs increase over time?
Your Care Coordinator will update your care plan, arrange additional support, and guide you through transitions to assisted living, memory care, or skilled nursing. GCaH benefits apply whether care is delivered at home or in a licensed care community.
Can couples join Ginger Cove at Home?
Yes. Couples may join together or individually. Plans can be customized to support different needs, health levels, or timelines between partners.
How can I learn more or attend an information session?
You can register for a Ginger Cove at Home 101 session, attend a virtual webinar, or schedule a personal consultation. Visit the Ginger Cove website or contact the GCaH office for current event dates and registration information.
