Meet Jean Woerner: A Day in the Life

September 14, 2022

Jean Woerner sounds more like a college kid than a retiree when asked about her life at Ginger Cove. Even her schedule is reminiscent of a school schedule:

Monday/Wednesday/Friday – water aerobics from 10 to 11 am

Thursday/Friday – croquet from 9 to 10 am; exercise class from 11 am to noon

Outside of her regular class schedule, Jean has resident meetings, happy hours and outings. Currently, Jean is also rehearsing for a theater production with the Ginger Cove Drama Club that will happen in November.

Jean moved to Ginger Cove in 2019 with her husband, who passed away last year. Between COVID and acting as caregiver, Jean didn’t really have a chance to experience all that Ginger Cove offers until just recently. “Residents can do as little or as much as they want to here,” she explained. “It’s easy to get involved and get to know everyone. At whatever pace works best!”

Indoors, Jean enjoys the art room. “In the art room, all skill levels are welcome,” she said. “If you aren’t an artist, you can certainly try.” She loves to see the flowers arranged by residents that adorn campus. Outside, Jean enjoys the woods and garden plots. When she has a free spot on her calendar, you can find her walking to the creek or sitting quietly in the meditation garden.
