The anonymous survey was conducted by Holleran Consulting in November 2012 among 256 independent living communities in 36 states with over 57,900 recorded responses.

Ginger Cove received Highest Honors in the following survey categories:

- Overall level of satisfaction with the retirement community: 95% of Ginger Cove residents responded “excellent” or “good”

- Recommendation to friend or family member: 95% of Ginger Cove residents said that they would recommend Ginger Cove

- Confidence in the community’s long-term future: 96% of Ginger Cove residents indicated a very high level of confidence

According to Ginger Cove CEO and Executive Director Dr. Edgar Mallick, the survey results and subsequent honors are significant beyond the national recognition: “Although the scores suggest that our mission to create an abundant life for all our residents is meeting with success, the comments and ratings will help us identify opportunities to achieve the highest levels of satisfaction in every aspect of our operation.”

Croquet has been a major activity at Ginger Cove since opening in 1989. The players have long held competitions against top teams like St. John’s College and the Naval Academy. Residents also raised $93,000 to build two outdoor artificial-turf courts which opened last year and have set up the ballroom to accommodate year round play.

Christensen’s family traveled from across the country to attend a gala luncheon in her honor.

Ginger Cove is pleased to be co-hosting the 2013 Maryland Senior Olympics Croquet Competition with the West River Wickets. On September 26-29, 2013 men and women over the age of 50 are invited to attend a 9-Wicket Croquet Event at both Ginger Cove and the West River Wickets’ Courts.

Registration includes an opening reception, breakfast rolls and coffee each morning, lunch on Friday and Saturday as well as an Awards luncheon on Sunday. If you’re interested in either participating or attending the 2013 Croquet Social Events please download and complete the registration form. A full list of rules can be viewed here.

On November 14th, LeadingAge Maryland hosted it’s first membership meeting with a day-long educational event at Ginger Cove.

Twelve residents from Ginger Cove participated in a special program with 120 kindergarteners at Germantown Elementary in Annapolis, on October 12, 2012.

Germantown currently participates in a project called Premier Kids at Hope where students are encouraged to act in a manner that exemplifies respect, responsibility, and safety. During the visit with Ginger Cove, students were asked to explain to their visitors how they act out these qualities on a day-to-day basis while in school.

The opportunity allowed the children to interact with a variety of adults and hear a variety of stories and experiences. Acquiring social and conversational skills are a vital aspect of the learning process and the dynamic of this program provides a unique and interactive way to do so.

Based on the great success of the program, Georgetown Elementary would like the residents to participate in other programs in the near future such as, reading to groups of students, teaching science lessons or assisting in a Writers Workshop.
