At the height of the Chautauqua movement at the turn of the 20th century, those hungry for intellectual stimulation were willing to travel long distances, often by train, to reach the summer assembly sites that sprang up across the country. Luckily for Ginger Cove residents, they only had to get to Friendship Hall, around the corner from the retirement community’s main dining room, to experience their own Chautauqua-style gathering.
